    Synthesized Field Recordings

    HiDERA | 15 November 2020 | 321 MB

A set of electronic recordings inspired by various sounds of nature, both real and imagined. Each recording is a single patch on a custom Eurorack style modular synthesizer. Modular synthesis is known for its rich and strange timbres, and these recordings have been only minimally processed to enhance certain frequencies while still allowing exploration of the full sonic spectrum. No external samples or layering have been used in the making of these recordings. Noah Prebish is a Brooklyn-based composer, producer, mixing engineer, and DJ. He is a founding member of experimental pop band Psymon Spine (Northern Spy Records) and cofounder of immersive party series Secret Friend. He is a former member of the indie pop group Barrie.

      Beginner’s Guide to Synthesis

      FANTASTiC | 11 May 2020 | 1.15 GB

With the huge range of synthesisers available today, comprising both DAW factory instruments and 3rd party synth plugins, a knowledge of how to use them is an essential part of modern production. This course aims to give you all of the fundamental skills and confidence to tackle sound design with any synthesiser with ease, to enable easier patch editing and creation of your own presets from magesy download scratch. The tutorials work through all of the main sections of a synth, including oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, arpeggiators and more, explaining the function and control set of each one. To make the course as universal as possible, a wide range of synths are featured in the tutorials, with many of the most popular synth plugins and DAW built-in instruments shown. The tutorials are punctuated with white board demonstrations, to help convey the main synthesising principles, combined with numerous examples of patch creation every step of the way. Students will learn how much can be done with relatively little on a synth, whilst also absorbing a wealth of techniques that will provide a solid foundation for designing many different types of sound. Although the course is primarily aimed at beginners, due to the technical nature of sound design, the level is mostly intermediate with an occasional foray into more advanced territory in one or two places!

Have you ever heard someone say (it may even be you) I’m not a sound designer? Or, I don’t use a synth in that way, I just fiddle with presets? I’ve begun to really loathe the phrase “Sound designer”. Because it’s become a phrase that makes people think of synthesis in a way that is not accessible to them. Well, I’ve got news for you; if you push one slider or twist one knob on a synth in order to change the sound, YOU ARE a sound designer. It’s time that we stop being afraid of actually learning how to use our instruments.

Chipsounds authentically emulates several vintage 8-bit-era sound chips (plus variants), down to their smallest idiosyncrasies. It also faithfully allows you to dynamically reproduce the accidentally discovered sounds effect tricks and abusive musical techniques that were made famous by innovative chiptune composers and classic video game sound designers, which for the good part of the last 2 decades, have pushed beyond the boundaries of the original chip designs. chipsounds is powered in part by Plogue’s powerful ARIA 64-bit sampler/synthesis engine that also powers Garritan’s complete new product line (and is also featured in many third party applications). chipsounds reproduces the exact form spectra of the most sought-after classic sound chips, including their most well-known variations, as sonically accurate as possible without adding any non-authentic aliasing or DSP artifacts.

chipsynth MD is a feature-rich four operator FM synth that packs quite a punch. The Mega Drive – also known as Genesis – is a much beloved console system that brought the bright and sparkly sound of FM to the masses. It resulted in the creation of numerous fast paced and exciting soundtracks, and it still drives the creativity of composers to this day. As we designed chipsynth MD, we couldn’t help ourselves but to jam pack it with features that take it to the next level, with an access to every component of the hardware no matter how obscure, and an intelligent layering system that lets you turn any OPN2 patch into a monstrous ear-splitting 6-layer wall of sound. MD features a bit accurate OPN2 (YM2612) emulator. We combined it with a SN76489-compatible square wave core (SPSG) and a special emulation of the very crunchy sample playback found in games, and we multiplied all of this by 6 to make it polyphonic in every situation imaginable. A complimentary VGM file player allows you to audition hundreds of vintage soundtracks just like they were meant to be heard.
