The B-3 V delivers the most authentic tonewheel organ and rotary speaker experience you’ll find anywhere, plus customizations that open up new creative opportunities. Monarch of electronic organs, the rich sounding B3 has been a staple of jazz, gospel, rock, reggae and R&B—not to mention pro studios everywhere—for over a half century. Its electromagnetic tonewheel design gave it a beefy quality not found on later transistor organs. Our faithful homage includes an authentic rotary speaker and an array of stomp boxes, plus inspiring updates like analog circuit mods and drawbar modulation for new animated and syncopated effects.

This Hammond AutoVari rhythm unit was originally built into an old old Hammond Dolphin organ from the 1970s. Although it only had 7 rhythm buttons, each one had 4 variations so there were 28 rhythms in all. The unit itself included circuitry and controls for the organs auto-accompaniment section but no circuit diagrams or schematics were available to see how to access it.

The haunting sounds of the Hammond Novachord have always intrigued us here at HS Towers. Made from over a hundred valves, thousands of capacitors and miles of hand sewn wiring looms and built in 1939, it was several decades ahead of its time … the world’s first polyphonic synthesiser housed in a beautiful, cherrywood cabinet… And it had a sound all its own. Its ‘Is it an organ or not … so what is it?” sounds and its creepy tones have graced many an old movie to great effect and indeed, our own Novachord library has been used in many productions including the award winning ‘Alan Wake’ game scored by Petri Alanko so we thought it might be nice if we did a ‘lite’ version so that others can enjoy this unique sound.

The Forgotten Keys FK14 Kontakt instrument is based on the 2nd incarnation of the Hammond AutoVari 64 rhythm unit from the early 1980s. The official model number was 101300 and it replaced the 101100 model. They were very similar in function, but the later model was very different inside and added a rhythm break feature as well as a programmable variation mode. The design of the unit gives the game away that it was meant to sit on top of a home organ. Indeed, this unit was also built into several Hammond organs from that period. The sounds were very distinctive with a rich bass drum and a nice snappy snare. The cowbell sound was surprisingly realistic for the time which may account for why it was so loud and pops up in the most unlikely of places! The “64” in the name refers to the 64 rhythm patterns available (16 main rhythms with 4 variations), while “AutoVari” refers to the way these variations could be stepped through automatically every so many bars.
